Whats the diffrerence between romantic ballet and modern ballet?

Romantic ballet, as I explained in my other answer, is an earlier period within classical ballet. Modern ballet is more often known as "contemporary ballet" in the U.S. The Wikipedia article on contemporary ballet sums it up quite well:

romanitic ballet is usually done with a partner (or can be done without) using really classic techniques and its usually really soft and flowing. modern ballet is just like romantic, but more up beat and modern...obviously lol

Romantic ballet derived from a period in time where ballet was focused on the fact that dancers were like fairies from other world. This was why the ballerinas would go en pointe, as if they were floating on the ground, rather than stepping.

Pas de Deux was invented so that the male ballet dancer could lift the ballerina up and show the audience how light (and like an Otherworld being) she was.

Modern ballet is still focused on ballet technique (otherwise it might as well be a contemporary or modern dance), but I believe there is a more general range of moves, some not traditional and classical, like there is in romantic ballet.
