You can start whenever you want if you have the drive and talent.
I don't know a WHOLE lot about ballet, but i don't think as a teenager you would be a very successful classic ballet dancer. you could do all kinds of other dancing though, theres jazz and modern and all sorts of stuff.
Best to start earlier, but that not the rule. Youll just have to be more passionate and strive harder than the rest. Best of luck to you!
have u red that "mao last dance" book by Cuxin Le. He started at 11 and became one of the most famous ballet dancers ever. I reackon that the latest is around 11. Plus if you started at 11 you would need to work hard and practice every day. Overall teens who begin ballet dancing are usually not very successful compared to those who started at 5 years old. Good luck anyways. It doesnt matter when you start. If you have fun and enjoy dancing, thats all that matters. Best of luck
from experience, those who are dedicated, live, breathe, and sleep ballet are successful. alot tend to drop out of ballet because their afraid to starve themselves or get an eating disorder to keep their body thin. it's difficult for them to be in an environment where everyone wants to be skinny but thats just not who they are. i mean if your life is all about ballet go for it and work hard but dont change yourself to fit in with the crowd. i personally stopped doing ballet after two years because it was difficult for me.
I started in second grade and after dancing with a company I went on to be an instructor so I can honestly tell you that if you have the desire then you can do it but getting there will answer the question as to how much you want it as it's very hard work even for those who start young, but it can be done. Good luck :)
At anyage, you will be suscessful in ballet. All you have to focus on what you are doing and listen to your teacher's instruction/ comments.
The overall success rate (i.e. becoming a professional ballet dancer) for the average 13 year old who starts ballet is probably %26lt;1 in 1000 and probably a lot worse than that. Even with a burning desire, great teachers, and lots of class time, you will limited by the amount of talent you have (or don't have). Don't listen to those who tell you that you can do anything if you just try hard enough - it just doesn't work that way.

Starting dance earlier is better, but not an automatic path to being a professional.

Professional female dancers' careers are usually, short, poorly paid and have constant worries about diet, injuries, and having a life outside of dance.

Ah, but to hear the applause and transport the audience to someplace outside their daily lives through your dancing is quite a thrill.
Well, actually, some very famous ballet dancers started when they were like, 15. You have a chance, but you have to work so hard to catch up to the best, and then even harder to beat them.
no you don't! you can be very successful especially if you want to go far! i know a lot of people that do that!

good luck:)
You can go incredibly far if you have the talent and the determination. Don't let anyone tell you other wise!
It dosent matter when you start. It's best to start early though. Just do your best and try hard. You have to give it 110%. Ballet is very complicated but completley worth it. But if you have strong ankles and are flexible your lmore likely to do well.
