No. They don't stand on their toes to begin with, they DANCE on their toes.
Pivoting works better on a small surface, and a toe is much smaller than a foot.
Also, the toe positions lend a certain grace to the dance movements that don't happen when the whole foot is set down.
That's also why women wear high heels; not because they want to be taller, but because they want to look more graceful.
If ballet dancers were taller would that mean they wouldn't have to stand on their toes?secure browser
Where do you think Cloggers come from ??
They started out in ballet and just got too tall !!

As for me:
1) Taller Ballet dancers still have to turn on their toes regardless, being part of the dance.
2) Only very few tall women succeed as ballet dancers as most ballet numbers require lifts and bounds, that would tax a lot the male dancers' energy as they do most if not all lifting. How cruel it would be to punish these guys to lift taller and heavier women that they could afford to carry around with, while performing some numbers,
3) While tall women may look very smart and elegant while walking, smaller women both in height and physique look a lot better and "cuter" dancing, turning and running on their toes onstage.
um haha NO.. the reason why ballet dancers stand on their toes is for poise and posture and because its actually a atllent that is what makes ballet what it is. but good question anyway never really thought of it like that
no not at all
it depends.....if she as a girl she still have to pointe on their toes because every ballet major dancer has to wear pointe shoes(only for girls)if it`s a boy you don`t need to stand on your toes even you`re very short you don`t have to stand on your toes
Being up on your toes, releve or eleve depending on where you start the upward movement from, is a necessary part of ballet dancing. If you are up on demi-pointe (which is on the balls of your feet) you are able to turn better then on flat foot. If wearing pointe shoes (which are not just for woman, a lot of men dance pointe as well) you are not actually standing on your toes you are standing in a box which is attached to a shank this supports your foot. There is still a lot of skill and technique that goes into this process but again its not actually standing just on their toes.
To directly answer your question, it doesn't matter the height of a dancer, going up on their toes is not for height but for movement purposes brought forth because most women in ballets when they were first being staged were fairies and the pointe shoes were brought about to you give the illusion that the dancers were floating... like fairies.
Hope that helps!
no. that doesn't mean anything. they do everything the same that short dancers do.
i don't think so. I mean, pointe shoes are a major part of ballet, and they aren't just for making you look taller... it's supposed to make you look more elegant, surreal, floating, etc. even though it's really painful for the wearer, the shoes and "standing" (DANCING!) on their toes is practically the whole "pointe" (haha) of ballet.
yes because it would look off if everyone was on their toes except for one person!
No.
It has nothing to do with height at all.
And to the person who said shorter people are "cuter", cute doesn't work for ballet when you are an adult, if you appear tall and elegant is what matters. A lot of "taller" girls become dancers because they look better. Short stubby legs just don't work.
