How do i get flexible for ballet?

If you are taking a class, then warm-up stretches will be required before the ballet instruction starts. Use them as a guideline and do some "homework". After the class is over, take the opportunity to work on flexibility. Muscles are more flexible immediately after they've been worked. Following the basic warm-up routine, stretch to the point of tightness and hold for about 10 seconds, then stretch deeper being careful not to go to fast. You will feel some mild discomfort for a few weeks or months, but one day you'll find that the stretches are easier for you and you can stretch and hold much deeper and longer than when you started. Like anything else, it is a process. It takes time. Be patient and most importantly, be consistent.

stretch your hamstrings and your back!

stretch after you warm up though, or you could pull something, and we dont want that.

one of the easiest and most effective stretches is the straddle. It stretches your inner thighs when your leaning center and hamstrings when you're leaning to the sides, as well as your sides when you are streching towards your toes.

Also try the pick for your hamstrings and do backbends for your back.

GOOD LUCK!! =)

Do the warm up exercises by yourself even if you are not at the studio.
do yoga, trust me it works. my friend does ballet and she and her friends swear by YOGA. give it a go and you wont go back :)
practice makes you flexible. see some tapes on ballet dancing and immitate them, how they move gracefully and how they become flexible.
stretch and over-stretch
stretch
work on it every day dint hurt you re self it is hard to notice improvement and it takes time
Warm up and stretch every day, preferably twice a day. Take Pilates and Yoga if you have access to them.
side split stretches:

1st stretch:take a thick book and put it down on the ground then put one of your feet on it and go down into the splits position as far as u can and hold it there for like 2 minutes and switch legs.then do it without the book.

2nd stretch:put one leg straight in front and the other leg fully bended and try to touch your foot that is straight and hold it for like 1 min then switch legs.

3rd stretch do the splits as far as u can down and hold it for 1 or 2 mins and switch legs.

4th stretch:if u can do the splits then hold your front foot for 30sec-1min then sit straight and bend your back and extend your arms backwards and do it with the other leg.

5th stretch: u can do lunges

middle splits:

stretch:do it as far down as u can and hold it there for 1 or 2min and rest for a few minutes and do it again.

Is 17 to old to start ballet?

It's never too old to start anything. Not sure if you could make it professionally but def not too old to learn it.

Is 17 to old to start ballet?performing show opera theater

absolutly not! in fact, is kind of advantageous because when you are older you are more commited and motivate and could probably learn in months what it tooke little kids to learn in years

.
Not if thats what you want to do

Enjoy
no, of course not! If you keep trying you can be very good. Ballet will be really fun!
nope. but youd have to join an adult class full of old people. plus you are too old to do it professionally. most ballerinas are started by the age of 4, are on points by age 9, and can do incredible things by age 17. youll never be able to compete in the professional world, but its always good for the figure and body to start any form of discipline
You are never too old to learn! Just remember to relax and have fun! I'm hoping you will decide to dance so you will feel the joy of what I love to do most! If it's what you what to do, you will learn quickly.
don`t be daft , as long as your fit go for it
No. I am male (middle aged) and I started to learn ballet when I was 17. I had no real professional classes but I had a landlady who had been a ballerina - she taught me. So I am still flexible, relaxed, thin ... I don't practise every day but I keep it going. I wish I had been that bloke who played Billy Elliott at 24 - he was great. But I loved that ballet of Swan Lake anyway with all those male dancers. I just love to dance nowadays, any old how. It doesn't matter. Last week I heard Little Richard's Good Golly Miss Molly and I was straight up there in my living room, dancing. Just roll the carpet back.
Hi,

My mother is 78, and still does a bit of ballet, although perhaps not too gracefully, as she would freely admit.

So I guess that thererfore there is no age limit.

Go for it.

Bob.
Absolutely not! I took dance when I was very young and then didn't get back into it until I was 19 going on 20! I'm 21 now and I've improved SO MUCH in only 2 years! In fact, being older can really have it's advantages: in many ways you are physically stronger and are more mature when it comes to your stage presence. I dance with advanced dancers still in high school and I've noticed these advantages. Like others have said, if it's something you want to do and you love to dance--give it a shot! You may just be a natural!! Good luck!

P.S. We've recently had a mom of three join our advanced class because she wanted to get back into dance after being out of it for nearly 10 years!
never too old, however you may need to work harder as you may not be as supple
you're never too old to start something. just get out there and do it
Ballet is a great way to stay in shape. I teach and own my own dance studio and I have students that started ballet with me when they are in their 40's. Make sure that you are being properly trained in technique and that your placement such as your knees are properly placed when you dance. Lastly be sure that you are taking from an instructor who is well trained in Ballet.
I started lindy hop at 40 and its wonderful. Go for it and keep within your sphere of ability. It will keep you fitter and more supple than any other form of excercise, (apart from yoga maybe)
no its not. i know plenty of women even in their 30's. there is not a good chance you will become pro in a large company. but there are smaller groups and even just do it for the love of dance.
Definately not too old. It is more a question of 'are you too fat?' If you are not too fat then by all means try. It does involve a lot of hard work though. And dancing.
Definitely not! Enjoy it!! Ballet./dance is one of the best ways to keep fit, and it also keeps you supple which will help when you get older :) Join a beginners adult's class and you'll have a brilliant time!
I think it might be tough to find a beginner ballet class at your age. But good luck finding one =)

Black tights

Black flats (or red for an extra "oomph" to it)

Natural make-up (if you wear make-up)

Elena Capone of Arcangelo Fine Art in Cecina, Italy, which represents the work of Italian artist Bruno Di Maio, agreed. "There is a timeless quality to the subject matter, and the elegance, glamour and beauty of the dancers appeal to a wide base of collectors.Today's ballet artists tend to be drawn to the subject matter for similar reasons. For Di Maio, who began portraying ballet dancers about 30 years ago, the spell hit after he met a young ballerina at the Scala Di Milano school in Italy's Lake Como. "He just fell in love with the subject and found it all irresistibly fascinating--the movements and colors, the contrast from light to shadow, the incredible elegance of the female form dressed in soft voile and carried away by music or resting between rehearsals.

YES, u can learn how do blallet

yes, you can. your muscles are still limber enough. I say this because, once you reach a certain age, it is harder to do the jumps, and splits. Go for it, and have fun.
Yes, you can learn at any age. However if you are thinking about dancing professionally, it's too late.
Of course.

learning dance doesn't depend on ur age
You can always learn ballet. You can do it for fun, but it is very unlikely that you will ever dance competitively. As a competitive dancer, I have seen people start at 10 and fail miserably. As long as you have fun learning ballet you are fine. That is the most important thing.
Yeah you GAY freak
You can still learn! I am learning it and I am 16 almost going on 17! So it is ok
yes u can learn it at ur age too.
Yes, of course. In New York City, many adult women and men take ballet, tap and other dance lessons.

Enjoy your lessons.
of course I started dancing at age 11....it's never too late..and we always need more guys in the dance world

What 20th century composr wrote the ballet "Appalachian Spring"?performing show

Aaron Copland

What 20th century composr wrote the ballet "Appalachian Spring"?opera score opera theater

Aaron Copland
Aaron Copland, 1900-1990. wrote the ballet.

The title Appalacian Spring was taken from the poem of Hart Crane.

It was originally written as "The Ballet of Martha" in 1944, for Martha Graham.

Graham was pleased by the work, which was scheduled to be performed in the fall of 1944. The only remaining problem was the title, which apparently stumped both composer and dancer. Even the day before the premiere, the work was still referred to as simply ``Ballet for Martha,'' but at the last minute the name ``Appalachian Spring'' was taken from a poem by Hart Crane.

It is one of the minor oddities of history that this phrase had never before been encountered by the composer, for it describes the music so perfectly that one would naturally conclude it had driven the creation of the work instead of being appended only as an afterthought.

How succesful are teens who begin ballet dancing?

can you go far from that point, or do you have to start earlier

How succesful are teens who begin ballet dancing?comedy show

not very successful.

How succesful are teens who begin ballet dancing?greek theater opera theater

You can start whenever you want if you have the drive and talent.
I don't know a WHOLE lot about ballet, but i don't think as a teenager you would be a very successful classic ballet dancer. you could do all kinds of other dancing though, theres jazz and modern and all sorts of stuff.
Best to start earlier, but that not the rule. Youll just have to be more passionate and strive harder than the rest. Best of luck to you!
have u red that "mao last dance" book by Cuxin Le. He started at 11 and became one of the most famous ballet dancers ever. I reackon that the latest is around 11. Plus if you started at 11 you would need to work hard and practice every day. Overall teens who begin ballet dancing are usually not very successful compared to those who started at 5 years old. Good luck anyways. It doesnt matter when you start. If you have fun and enjoy dancing, thats all that matters. Best of luck
from experience, those who are dedicated, live, breathe, and sleep ballet are successful. alot tend to drop out of ballet because their afraid to starve themselves or get an eating disorder to keep their body thin. it's difficult for them to be in an environment where everyone wants to be skinny but thats just not who they are. i mean if your life is all about ballet go for it and work hard but dont change yourself to fit in with the crowd. i personally stopped doing ballet after two years because it was difficult for me.
I started in second grade and after dancing with a company I went on to be an instructor so I can honestly tell you that if you have the desire then you can do it but getting there will answer the question as to how much you want it as it's very hard work even for those who start young, but it can be done. Good luck :)
At anyage, you will be suscessful in ballet. All you have to focus on what you are doing and listen to your teacher's instruction/ comments.
The overall success rate (i.e. becoming a professional ballet dancer) for the average 13 year old who starts ballet is probably %26lt;1 in 1000 and probably a lot worse than that. Even with a burning desire, great teachers, and lots of class time, you will limited by the amount of talent you have (or don't have). Don't listen to those who tell you that you can do anything if you just try hard enough - it just doesn't work that way.

Starting dance earlier is better, but not an automatic path to being a professional.

Professional female dancers' careers are usually, short, poorly paid and have constant worries about diet, injuries, and having a life outside of dance.

Ah, but to hear the applause and transport the audience to someplace outside their daily lives through your dancing is quite a thrill.
Well, actually, some very famous ballet dancers started when they were like, 15. You have a chance, but you have to work so hard to catch up to the best, and then even harder to beat them.
no you don't! you can be very successful especially if you want to go far! i know a lot of people that do that!

good luck:)
You can go incredibly far if you have the talent and the determination. Don't let anyone tell you other wise!
It dosent matter when you start. It's best to start early though. Just do your best and try hard. You have to give it 110%. Ballet is very complicated but completley worth it. But if you have strong ankles and are flexible your lmore likely to do well.

Are mi toes too short for ballet ?? help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...events

The size of your toes won't matter so long as you put in the practise and buy correct fitting ballet shoes (point shoes). As well as the exercises previous mentioned; if you balance on one leg, whilst rising onto the ball of your foot slowly and then slowly down again. Also stretch you leg out in front of you and slowly point your foot, when the foot is pointed rotate the ankle a few times in one direction and then again in the other direction. There are a lot of exercises, however ballet is a really good discipline and within the syllabus has very good exercises to strengthen the feet, toes and also the ankles.

I hope your audition goes really well, good luck xx

the size of your toes will not make you too short for ballet. The length of your legs might, but not your toes!
I have long toes and I still couldn't balance to save my life! I think it is much less toe length and much more concentration and your ability to center your balance. Good luck!
it's all about technique. if you don't have it then you have no chance.
the best advice i can give you is to practice more. you can adapt to short toes if you just work on it. it may be a bother at first, but eventually you should not even notice. you didn't mention what kind of dance your doing, if its ballet, pointe, etc., but if it is ballet, i would reccomend finding a shoe that has a very thin pad under the ball of the foot. if you can feel that seam, its too thick. you want something thinner because on a full releve, if your feet are as small as you say, you will be off the pad of the shoe and on the leather/canvas of the shoe. make sure you can get onto full releve comfortably when you are trying on new ballet shoes. this might help also. and if you strengthen your toes a little, that could do you some good. try picking things up off the floor with your toes, see how fast you can do it and try to find the heaviest thing you can pick up. that will make them more flexible and stronger.
Toes have nothing to do with balance.
you should have no difficulty on pointe with correct fitting shoes but off pointe you will need to work all your muscles harder. one group of muscles will not sustain you, but ballet itself is designed to give you all the strengths you need, as long as you make the commitment. presumably - you have potential or you would not have reached audition stage, so - good wishes for the future.
it doesnt matter. ive been in ballet 4 7 years.

How do you do the perfect ballet bun???

I want it two be flat and not like a big lump on my head. what products cna i use to make my hair slick pony tail not sooo lumpy so post what ever you have!

How do you do the perfect ballet bun???say yes

Depending on hair lenth if not too long,

Pull into a tight ponytail.

Secure the whispy hairs with wax.

Use a thick scrunchy (or homade one)(see Below) then fan your hair all around it, covering all the fabric!

Secure fan with rubber band and Spray.

Then sweep in a clock wise motion all the hair that is sticking out around the bun and secure with bobby pins more hairspray and pretty ribbon as desired.

To make your bun flatter and fuller if you hair is not. Make your own scrunchie form by using the top elastic part of a tall gym sock. Just cut it off and roll down. You can very it buy using differnt sized sock. THis is just the form the hair goes around and will not be able to be seen.

How do you do the perfect ballet bun???palace theatre opera theater

pomade, and hair spray
this only works if you do not have layers!

1) twist your hair all the way down

2) twist it around to make a flat bun on your head

3) hold the bun VERY VERY tight and stick in like 10 bobby pins (more or less everyones different. youll know there are enough wen the bun feels tight)

4) let go of the bun

5) put in TONS of hardening hair spray so your hair can take anything
Well i dont know the rite way to do it but if you want your haire to LOOk like it has a ballet bun then first braid you hair in a pony tail braid, and the but it in a bun. then it'l LOOK lilke you have a ballet bun
well when i had long hair and long layers i would put it in a pony tail. then i would braid it (nothing perfect) and then i would wrap it around into a "ballet" bun and then secure it with a hair tie.

Do not use water. This will shrink and ruin the shoes by dissolving the glue. You could lightly try alcohol on a sponge to remove light stains. You can cover with calamine lotion or kryolan pointe shoe aqua.

i usually just use an old toothbrush with soap %26amp; water for mine but yeah like the other person said you might need to replace them
if its just floor "gunk" They have Point shoe make-up that can cover it if you have a show... thats cheaper and faster then replacing semi-ok shoes.

if you don't have a show-- or noone is going to see them outside of class.. leave em' dirty
Use calamine lotion, put it on with cotton buds or an old toothbrush. on your pointes but practice first on an old pair of shoes because if not used properly you can ruin the shine.

make sure you dont scrub too hard or else it will ruin the satin.

hope this helps!!
its really hard to clean them with out messing them up. when you get new piont shoes make sure you buy those slits that go on top of them. that way when you recital comes they are clean
I would recommend soapy water on a soft wash cloth!
cover up with pointe shoe paint for somewhere like discount dance

No, but you are behind the eight ball. People half your age have been doing it for years, and that is a lot of catch-up. But it is possible if you have good teachers, a lot of money and time, and if you work twice as hard as your competitors. Good luck!
well I'm 13 now but i started at three but last year i started at a new studio and i wasn't good at it at all but i practiced at home and am good as all the other people in the class now so no and there is a girl that started at fourteen in my new studio and she is in a dance colledge in Ohio
some have actually started as young as 3 or 4, I think it's great no matter what age you are to pursue something that you're passionate about. those are the ones who succeed the most. best of luck butterfly!
hey listen even am just 13

who care about you age if you are really passionate you would not be asking q

here's the deal if you really want to do ballet you will certainly be able to

there is a saying which goes like this

if there is a will there is a way

if you want to do something badly you definitely can
Of course not! I say if its something you really want and if you work hard enough then you could do it. Good Luck
Nope, you'll just have to work as hard as everyother ballet dancer whos ever made a "career" out of it.

There is an old term, "danseur noble," and they are sometimes referred to as "cavaliers" (from the French word for "knight," "chevalier"), though that is usually only in context of the partner of the ballerina in some of the great classical ballets (particularly Nutcracker). I'm not sure how correct using that word is, and it's certainly not a general term for all male ballet dancers. There is the word "ballerino," but I've never heard ballet professionals use it--perhaps it is used in Italian.

Regarding all the people who think male ballet dancers are gay, boy are they wrong! (Believe me, I know from personal experience.) Many boys and men get interested in dancing because of the opportunity to work with and handle "gorgeous girls in tight clothes," as my bro-in-law put it. Generally, the percentage of gay men in ballet tends to be higher than in general society, but there are still more straight than gay men. (That can vary a lot from company to company, but overall, I find it true.)

Ballet can be an excellent career for men, much more than for women (less competition, more opportunity, often more money), but it is very hard work.

GAY
Some one that the women drag in to give the spectacle the guise of being universal. Ballet is not an art form it is a crippler of young women. Having the men there disguises the fact that dance is mostly about woman self-promoting their bodies, and glorifying themselves. Think about it: a violinist can evoke an emotion with a pulse as small as a hemi semi demi quaver even the most gifted dancer can't express that.

Is it too late to learn ballet?

i'm 16 and i'm thinking about taking classes. I've always wanted to learn but my mom always tells me its too late.

Is it too late to learn ballet?binoculars

You know almost every little girls dream was to become a ballerina at one point. Some of us wanted to do ballet and our parents let us, some of us although wanted to do ballet ballet but our parents said no. And we never got to, but just know that ballet especially dance is never too late. A lot of people ask the same question everyday, and the answer is always that it's not too late. And I think the reason your mom is telling you constantly that it's too late is because it is if your dream is to go professional than it's too late because you need a certain amount of years of training, but as a hobby? You could start any day. :) Well actually you could go pros but it'd be too hard unless you were one of those geniuses, who just magically was a natural. Very unlikely though, but I do want to say this. :) If want to do ballet you need to go to a professional school, as in a pretty good one, you want to be trained the right way. Going to a place with trained and qualified teachers is a very important thing. First, you should find a couple of ballet school that seem goo, and you should go and visit them, then they should give you a student handbook, or a packet of information this is how you can tell is they're goo, then check the studios see if they are light and airy and have a good atmostphere. Do they have piano accompiment? That is the best. The levels should go up by leotard colors. Don't ever go to a school in the $45 tuition a month range. Those are cheap, and not good. You will clearly be able to see the difference between a good school and a bad one. If they put you in the teen/ adult class, I reccomend you should just take the ones with the 8-10 year olds, trust me it's better, you won't get teased, you'll then within a year be promoted up a level then will be with girls problaly around 13-15 then so on. Just have patience you'll go up before you know it , and then it won't be as embarrassing! Oh, and take at least 2 classes a week, it's minium. What's the point of going once a week? Trust me if you take 1 class a week you'l forget everything you learned from the previous one. :)

Is it too late to learn ballet?violin opera theaterYour never too old to be a dancer!! and ballet is a very good class to start with...it is the basics of all dance!!...good luck! Report It

I'm afraid I have bad news.If you wanted to be a pro,the time has passed for you to get into point-work.However,if you still want to take class for the discipling and the great excersise, then go for it!

TL
It's never too late, go for it.
Its never to late

if you have a passion for it and its something you really want you can do it

You dont even know if you have a talent for it

:)
Of course not!
My friend started taking ballet at the age of 25. Yes she may not be a pro but she's pretty darn good on what she has learned. Anyone can learn at any age. But the secret is determination. If you have it, no one can stop you from learning but you :-)
Not too late at all! If you have interests in it then you should def. take up a class or two!

Try it out.

Tell your mom if after 3 weeks of taking classes you don't like it or "fit in", you'll drop it.
U R never too late to learn and get good at ballet even if you don't try to go pro . With determination and 3-4 classes/week you can learn a lot and be on point in a few months (never mind what another poster said - I've seen plus-size women in their 30's start classes and be on point in %26lt;4 months). Point out to your Mom the benefits of dance - discipline, fitness, poise and great posture among other things....Good Luck
asked the same question aday or 2 ago. no,it's not too late if you're willing to work hard ;)

How do you find out National Ballet of Canada principal dancers' birthdays?

Ask them, or read an article about them. If you are looking for age, it will not be too hard to find. For specific days, that's a bit more personal and I wouldn't expect to find it in public. Maybe type in their name in Google

None of the above(CHECK) on ballet to show how big of a mandate the red or blue candidate has?

If people aren't going to vote, I doubt they would bother coming to the polls to say so. Then again, if that box did exist, it would allow people to show their general disapproval for the candidates. Ironically, those who would use such a box wouldn't care enough to vote its existence into place.

Do girls wear bras under their ballet leotards?

it doesn't look like they do. what if you have a big bust?

Do girls wear bras under their ballet leotards?regal theater

Generally professional dancers that perform in companies such as the Russian Ballet Company, American Ballet Theatre, etc have to be physically a certain body shape, such as flat busted, small waisted, similar to that of a young boys body. Many large busted women still do ballet though. Depending on the type of leotard they are sometimes able to get away with wearing an ordinary sports bra found in normal clothing shops. Other bras are available such as special dancing bras that are low cut at the back so they can鈥檛 be seen if wearing a low cut leotard. Some bras also have clear straps which many dancers who need the support wear. Other times dancers wear body suits, which is a skin coloured suction tight type of leotard that is worn underneath a normal leotard. And as others have pointed out, some leotards have built in bras.

Do girls wear bras under their ballet leotards?performing art center opera theater

don't some leotards have built in bras?
They usually don't... Just wear a sports bra if you need to.
if your bar is visible dont wear one but generally bras are hidden under your leotard, thats the case with mine. But if you're worried you can get leotards with a kind of bra bit underneath them so you dont have to wear a bra (if it shows)

its fine dont worry!
If you've got a big bust flaunt it.
girls who need support usually do. either sports bra, dance bra, or regular bra. they usually stick to leotards that will hide a bra.
I use it, and I think its the most comfortable. If you don't use you know, your busts will just jump around, and that is so annoying! But of course if you have a leotard with self-bra, then you wont need an extra. Good luck:)
They wear a ballet bra underneath their leotards. This is the bra that I use, and alot of my friends that go to my academy use this bra too.

http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p...

Most ballet bras have a clear strap in the back so they wont show if you have a leotard that doesn't have a tank top back.
i do, first u need to get a skin coloured bra also known as a nuditard, its just a special bra that has clear straps and the main colour of the bra is skin coloured and there are no seams on the outside of the cup to forme ripples outside on the leotard.

Hope this helped!
if they have big boobs they do. or if they are wearing low cut leotards. butnever on stage in a performance because thats tacky. its up to them to get a leotard with a built-in bra.

I would think there are. Maybe you could take up yoga or pilates as an alternative.

Ask at a ballet school. You should find one in the phone book.
Of course. Check with any ballet school, dance studio or local Parks and Recreation Department, YMCA, Fitness center, drama school. It is great fun and great exercise. If you can, find a class with live music.
I'm over 40 years old, taking my first beginning ballet class at my loal university. I'm not the oldest student in the class, either. I'm definately not the youngest. The class has 13 women and 3 men.

The men say their majors are Nursing, Business and Dance/Music.

All the ballet performances I've seen were adult performances, so my conclusion is yes, there is such a thing as adult ballet.

Absolutely.
Yes. Most ballet studios offer open adult classes sometimes even at different levels. I am a professional ballet dancer and have taken many open adult classes. There are people of all levels who do it for exercise and fun because it is great for your body and spirit. I recommend it.

What should I wear to the ballet?

It's a Midsummer Night's Dream - Wang Theater in Boston.

What should I wear to the ballet?paramount theater

Ballet has traditionally been a semi-formal event. The ladies will wear dresses and long gowns. You'll need a good suit, coordinating dress shirt and maybe a tie. The tie is optional. Wear clean dress shoes and make sure your coat/jacket is fairly formal as well.

What should I wear to the ballet?theatre opera theater

A two piece suit with a fashionable shirt and tie, shoes to match, get your hair cut and styled, buy new cologne, hitch a cute babe and off to the theater. You will be in your own Midsummer Nights Dream
You should dress nice. Even if you don't want to wear a suit, you should at least wear a nice pair of dress pants and a nice dress shirt with a tie.
Wear clothing that if you got to meet the performers, you wouldn't be embarassed by your appearance (nor would the people you are with be embarassed by it). I always wear a suit to the opera.
please whatever you wear dont go casual or wearing jeans i say this only for your own good
something nice i don't mean a tux, but i just wen to see the Nutcracker in San Francisco and men where in nice slacks dress shoes and a nice top women where wearing any thing from slightly fancy dresses to simple evening gowns. black is always good. have fun !
men should wear a suit and tie and women should be semiformal dressy.
what a good question...i even thought of ringing the theatre to ask!! when i go...i am going to wear smart-ish trousers..nice top underneath and a tailored jacket...thats as posh as i want to be!! - i hate dressing up too much - feel uncomfortable..so i hope what i wear will be ok..and i hope you have a wonderful time at the ballet...its so graceful and beautiful!
Nice clothes not casual but nice. Like a tie , suit if you want to too. or black pants and a black button up shirt.
Wear the best you have that you feel comfortable wearing. Anything from nice slacks and shirt to a suit. It is my opinion that it is your choice.

Jeans and Tshirt - No

But I feel that regardless of your "social standing" if you want to go (obviously you have the opportunity and are choosing to go) then anyone else there should just be glad that there are more people enjoying the arts.

Dressing up can be loads of fun, but be comfortable with yourself.
There is no specific dress code for ballet performances. Some patrons prefer to dress in business attire while others prefer casual clothing. Formal attire is not generally worn.
I have no clue! Maybe a tux??? That might be nice..........
According to the websites of the Pennsylvania Ballet and the New York Ballet, neither dance company has a dress code. What is suggested is business attire. I believe the ballet companies want to encourage patronage and say to wear comfortable clothes. However, on Fodor's website, a traveler was advised to wear business attire and to forgo casuaI.

I recommend a suit, white shirt and tie, and polished leather shoes. Be sure to get a haircut.

What I have learned concerning dress is that it conveys a person's level respect one has for the performing art.
There is no hardfast dress code when you go out. In the past people used to dress up to go to the theatre, ballet and Broadway. Then our culture went "street" and people just started dressing like they were hanging out on a Saturday. Personally, I'm starting to dress up again. I'm tired of not having any style and class. So, go wild and wear something crazy!
A Sexy Tux!
Lucky you!

Ballet is wonderful!

Wear something formal (tie, nice shoes...)

You'll feel better with a nice suit instead of sandals!

Bye!
I think you should wear a suit of some kind, send a good message, I'm here notice me for my looks and my classy style!
Wear something nice like a suit, but you don't have to wear a tie. You can wear something formal/casual.
Either semi-formal, or get in the spirit of the Elizabethan period with hippie-type garb, and do your hair with a flower...
Where whatever you feel like wearing...

No im kiddin wear what ever suits u..
What do you have to wear to the ballet.
wear something kinda formal and kinda casual...like a sweater and nice pants...whatever you choose to wear, make sure it's comfy because ballets are long and boring most of the time...
Probably comfortable clothes that someone would wear to ballet!
A tutu, you'd look just dandy in it.
Don't Wear Any Thing, maybe its better for you and us to watch some one dancing without cloth
Wear something that will allow freedom of movement...something that will won't bind as you are performing a pas de deux, etc.
Ohh without a doubt you have to wear a Tutu and ballet shoes. Make sure your hair is pulled back tightly and in a bun. You can of course use a silver tiara to enhance the crown of your head.

Don't forget to tie the ribbons on the shoes tightly so thy dont slip of during the pirouttes.

Hope to see you there give me a wave i will be in the front row taking the pictures

noo. your not gay unless you like men. do what you love.
Many straight men and boys enjoy ballet.
well its probably not going to help your macho image, but it doesn't make you gay.
No.
No, and why would you think so?
If, by "ballet" you mean playing with another dude's penis, then yes. If not, then no.
That depends, are you sexually attracted to men? If yes then you're gay, if no then you're not.
That's an old, worn stereotype.
No!

I like it when a boy will do ballet! and so do other girls. some people like jocks might make fun of you but the ladies will love it
No thats like saying girls that plays baseball are gay... go for it if you like it
....no ....but if you likes man....yes.
No
I wish not but yeah!
That's the stereotype. It's not, "if you dance, you're gay." It's that gays are more likely to do ballet than straight guys, which is actually pretty true. But no, it doesn't make you gay.
no you are not gay when you do that . Many great males aspired to be great in ballet and is good for your posture anyway!

have fun!
you're only gay if you let let men stick their boysticks in your bum hole.

I don't think ballet has meets that definition!
only doing ballet does not make you gay. for many men doing ballet it actually builds their arm strength as well as strengthens their legs
If the tutu fits ....
No, not necessarily. If doing ballet is something you love, keep it up! Don't let anyone talk you out of it! Being gay isn't something you were born with, even though many people think so. It's a CHOICE you have to make...just a choice. Not a gene or something given to you by God or something when you're born.

Don't stress out about it. Good luck!
Maybe, if you're not in a ballet class or anything like that and do it in secret, and think about having the girl's role in Swan Lake.
Ice skate too right?
Heck no, Doing an art form never makes a person gay, You would be gay if you were sexualy attracted to males, but not from doing something as beautiful as ballet. Anyone who would call you gay is jelious they they do not get to do lifts and spins with beautiful girls in their arms and hands. Enjoy your ballet. I wish I had the chance to learn it.
NO.

Most male ballet dancers that I know are heterosexual.
NO
No you're not. As has been said already, you're gay if you're attracted to other men, not becuase you dance ballet.

And if you're worried about your macho image, remember that ballet is an excellent form of aerobic exercise, and will build your muscles up; male ballerinas aren't weaklings.
only if you let the other guys stick their pointy toes in u and let them touch your tightpanted crotch. lol.
there are plenty male ballet dancers out there. doing ballet changes nothing about your sexual orientation.
Yes...because you have to have a little wee wee to fit into those tights.

No! Flats are classic an pretty. Trends like plaid shoes might go out according to the season, but simple, neutral colors are always in!
they are still in style! just bcuz not everyone wears them doesn't mean they're out of style. some styles can last for more than a year. they are really cute and there are millions of types, it will take awhile for them to get out of style. if someone says they are out, don't listen to them bcuz in style and out of style is kind of an opinion. they just don't kno. but they are definately IN style! :D

they are still in style...and I hope that they don't go out of style because i love them!
no way! theyre still in becasue now they come in a bunch of different styles. theres more sporty ones, peep toe, the tradional flats, and more! and i think that since skinny jeans are really popular now that ballet flats are still in, because skinny jeans and flats look really good together.

In ballet how long does it take for you to be able to go on points?

Is it really hard?

In ballet how long does it take for you to be able to go on points?extension

It depends on the individual. Most important is that the feet are strong enough and the bones have developed enough to handle the stress of being on pointe. Also important is that the core is strong and connected so that you have control of your body. I have seen many dancers who have started before they were ready, maybe because they reached the magical age or had been dancing for the right amount of time, have to deal with negative effects. Not only is there an increased potential for injury, short term or chronic, but it can definitely slow down overall progression.

Keys areas to focus on when preparing to go on pointe are core strength, foot and ankle strength, and proper execution of plies.

Beware, there are many teachers out there who claim to be knowledgeable, experienced dancers. A hint, generally speaking a trophy, or winning a competition, does not necessarily mean the dancer/teacher knows what they are talking about. (In Ballet especially. The areas of Ballroom, Drill Team, and Cheer Dance are definitely exceptions to this)

It is definitely hard work, but few things compare to the feeling of pointe work for the advanced dancer. The amount of effort and heart you are willing to put in definitely is related to readiness, and whether or not you consider it difficult.

In ballet how long does it take for you to be able to go on points?movie theater opera theater

THere is not a certain amount of years before you go an pointe-it all depends on if your feet are strong enough. Pointe is a little hard to get used to, but if you just really work on strengthening your feet and start with the basics, then you will be great in no time! Good luck!
generally a studio will set an age- around 12 or 13.

The reason for this is that bones in your feet need to be sturdy enough so that they are not hurt when the dancer puts so much pressure on them. Whats interesting, is that bones dont actually complete ossification- finish growing and hardening- until you are 20-25.

Pointe is definitely challenging, but also rewarding, and i highly recommend it to any current ballet dancers.
Unlike what someone else said, a studio should not jsut set an age where they put all their girls en pointe. It takes several years to gain the ankle and foot strength, technique, understanding of movement, and core strength to be able to go en pointe without injuring yourself. It takes everyone different amounts of time to be ready. Your teacher should put girls in pointe shoes individually, not as a big group.

Pointe is very difficult, and you need to be prepared for it to hurt, too.
it depends on you. the normal age is around 12-13 if uve been doing it for a while. probably a few years to get ur tekneique up. also u need to have strong ankles and legs. it is hard and it hurts. try standing by yourself on your tippie toes. then imagine that but dancing in a wooden box. yeah it hurts. u can put padding it it like big tips, tape etc... it is really hard to explain about how hard it is. ballet is hard if you want to do it right. pointe is like the next level. think about being 13 then being 21. big difference. a lot harder.

If you get more fit, it would probably help you alot. It depends HOW overweight you are.
If you want to get in shape, you really like ballet, and think it would be fun...go for it. Just be patient with yourself.
Go for it and never give up! it doesn't matter how overweight you are or how not into dancing you have been in the past. what matters is that you want to do it. don't be embarrassed and keep your head up. if you want to do ballet, do ballet, if you want to do bungee jumping do that. if it gives you satisfaction and you fell good with yourself while you're doing it, that is all that matters!!!

let us know how it goes. good luck!
yeah, ballet woud definitly help you! It'll improve your coordination and balance and, although you may not see improvement in your weight right way, it will come Good luck, and have fun!!
i somehow doubt it. sorry...that probably isn't the answer you wanted to hear. u need to get into better physical shape first. try jogging or joining a gym.
I really think ballet would work for you.

Many dancers I know used to be clumsy before taking ballet, but now they are some of the best coordinated ppl I have ever met.

Also, it doesn't matter if you're overweight. A few years back in my ballet class, I had an obese girl in the class. She was still amazing at dancing! Just check out dance studios in your area for adult classes.
I say dont get into it if you feel you are TO overweight and i diffently say that ballet can be very hard maybe a lot harder than ppl think and if you wanna do it ( even thinking about ur circumstances you have listed) then you should practice your corrdination and skills like the cloumsyness first b4 you get into it , be more fit and it could come naturaly , but u gotta get there first , so dont give up!!

Yes of course ballet flats are suitable and where.
yes, as long as their brown of black or whatever color your pants are.
Yes, as long as they go with what you have on and aren't to loud.
Of course! I would stay away from the the bright colors such as bright green, fushia, yellow...you know all the neon colors. You can do colors like white, light blue, light pink, black w/ polka dots...anything that is not neon you can pull off.
i think so, ballet flats are great!

Did ballet come from the french people?

Ballet began in the Renaissance in Italy. It then spread to france and Russia. The first official recognition of Ballet as an art was in 1661. Most americans learn from the French ballet schools which is why we use the french terms. However, Cheqetti (sp?) is an Italian school often used, and Russian schools are definately hot.

History of ballet

Engraving of a Ballet before Henri III and his Court, in the Gallery of the Louvre. (folio, Paris, Mamert Patisson, 1582.)Ballet has its roots in Renaissance court spectacle in Italy, but was particularly shaped by the French ballet de cour, which consisted of social dances performed by the nobility in tandem with music, speech, verse, song, pageant, decor and costume. Ballet began to develop as a separate art form in France during the reign of Louis XIV, who was passionate about dance and determined to reverse a decline in dance standards that began in the 17th century. The king established the Acad茅mie Royale de Danse in 1661, the same year in which the first com茅die-ballet, composed by Jean-Baptist Lully was performed. This early form consisted of a play in which the scenes were separated by dances. Lully soon branched out into op茅ra-ballet, and a school to train professional dancers was attached to the Acad茅mie Royale de Musique, where instruction was based on noble deportment and manners.

The 18th Century was a period of vast advancement in the technical standards of ballet and the period when ballet became a serious dramatic art form on par with the Opera. Central to this advance was the seminal work of Jean-Georges Noverre, Lettres sur la danse et les ballets (1760), which focused on developing the ballet d'action, in which the movements of the dancers are designed to express character and assist in the narrative. Reforms were also being made in ballet composition by composers such as Christoph Gluck. Finally, ballet was divided into three formal techniques s茅rieux, demi-caract猫re and comique. Ballet also came to be featured in operas as interludes called divertissements.

The 19th Century was a period of great social change, which was reflected in ballet by a shift away from the aristocratic sensibilities that had dominated earlier periods through Romantic ballet. Ballerinas such as Marie Taglioni and Fanny Elssler pioneered new techniques such as pointework that rocketed the ballerina into prominence as the ideal stage figure, professional librettists began crafting the stories in ballets, and teachers like Carlo Blasis codified ballet technique in the basic form that is still used today. Ballet began to decline after 1850 in most parts of the western world, but remained vital in Denmark and, most notably, Russia thanks to masters such as August Bournonville, Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa. Russian companies, particularly after World War II engaged in multiple tours all over the world that revitalized ballet in the west and made it a form of entertainment embraced by the general public. It is one of the most well preserved dances in the world.

Is ballet a sport???

I think it is. It's really athletic

Is ballet a sport???opera house

i most definitely think it is. i have been a dancer for over 15yrs. I am a trained jazz and contemporary dancer. I didn't start taking ballet until college and OH MY GOD! I have never done so much with my muscles than i have since i started ballet training. I'm not even trying to make ballet my profession. All I know is that I've run track and danced longer than I've I've done ballet, and it ranks right up there as far as discipline and muscle control is concerned.

Is ballet a sport???dream theater opera theaterYES! I`m 12 years old and have been taking ballet for eight years. It should so be an offical sport!!!!!! Report It

I dance ballet and I feel that it is. I read somewhere that one ballet recital is about as physical as a football game. I believe it.
Much of formal dance is very athletic. However, it is also very graceful. Football players fall around all over the place - compared to dancers, they're quite clumsy. Also, ballet dancers have to memorize all the dance steps for a particular ballet, and this takes a lot of work. For these reasons, ballet qualifies as an art.
hell yes it's a sport. We have to keep in shape just like people who play "traditional sports". excellant question
If dance was any easier then it would be called football, and yes it is a sport, well to me it is anyway.
yes.
I don't think ballet is a sport, but ballerinas are definitely athletes. Ballet is a type of art that takes serious training and dedication.
no its an art ... businesses who have their students do compititions make it a sport but it wasnt ment to be that way.
It is strenuous, dancers must be in good physical condition, but unlike a sport, there are no winners or losers. It is an art form and rather than compete with each others, dancers cooperate with each other to tell a story.
Heck no. Sort of I guess, actually.

Well, it depends for long a person has danced. I did, for 12 years, and although it did make me stronger, I never felt like it really exhausted me. And I worked my booty off!!!

Going for a long run always worked better for me.

Plus ballet ruins ankles/hips/knees. *scrunches nose*
I do not consider ballet a sport, although there is no denying that those dancers are athletes.

The reason I don't consider it a sport is because in competition, the judging is very subjective. There is no concrete way to measure gracefulness or artistry, for example. It's not like in other sports where something either is or is not a goal. When art mixes with athleticism, it's not a sport. Ballet is more of an art form than anything else.
I think dancing in general is a sport because it is exercise and you could get seriously hurt if you don't stretch properly before hand.
no it is a form of art..it is as physical as sport or more but it is an art form which makes it beautiful
You bet it is!!! I have been in ballet for nine years! So to anyone who says ballet is not a sport...I'd like to see you try!
yes...ballet is a sport..if you take it seriously
it is technically an art.

it is called a Fouette it is a type of pirouette and you spelled Pirouette correctly the most famour example of these turns is in swan lake when Odette (she's the good white swan) does 32 in a row without stopping and finishes in a first arabesque en pointe!

Else when you're shopping, make sure you put the shoes on without any socks, and walk around for a bit so you know if they're comfortable or not.
This is coming from the biggest flats lover ever.....the reason why flats hurt is because the lack of arch support....shoes like tennis shoe have built in support where as flats are like going barefoot.....

5. Cinderella

Which ballet should i watch: giselle, manon, romeo %26amp; juliet, cinderella, sleeping beauty?shows opera theater

1. Romeo %26amp; Juliet, because Prokofiev's music is beautiful, and the ballet is especially dramatic. 2. Cinderella, because Prokofiev's music is beautiful, and you may see an innovative new production. 3.) Sleeping Beauty, because Tchaikovsky's music is gorgeous, and one enjoys "bad guys" like the black fairy Carabosse. 4. Giselle, because Adolph Adam's music is beautiful, and everyone should see this ballet once. 5. Because.
romeo and juliet
The greatest aesthetic experience of my life was seeing Rudolf Nureyev and Dame Margot Fountain dance Giselle. Adam's music is superbly adapted to drama, and Nureyev had shaped the choreography in ways that seem to had remained.

Another ballet that I would recommend as exquisite is on film. Nureyev in his prime choreographed Don Quixote with the music of Minkus. The story is all jerked around, but the ballet is beautiful.
Sleeping Beauty

Cinderella

Romeo and Juliet

I have not heard of Giselle or of Manon
sleeping beauty, it has the best story

Tap, ballet, jazz/lyrical, hiphop?mr messed up opera theater

I would defiantly recommend Ballet. It is a starter class that is used in all types of dance. It builds your muscles and helps you have good upper body and grace.

My opinion i would take lyrical. Lyrical is very fun. You can express what you feel that day through your dancing. But that is my opinion. You should take whatever class you think you would like the best. But defiantly take Ballet.
Ballet is a class that is used in all types of dance; it's a good idea for beginners to start here. It builds your muscles and helps you have good upper body and grace.

I'm going to have to disagree on ~amazing dancer~'s comment. I reccomend you take either Tap or Jazz--whichever appeals to you best. I believe Lyrical should be taken when you are much more experienced in the art of dance.

When I was 2, I started with Ballet and Tap. Then I worked my way up to jazz, and finished off with 8 other types of dance. Now I'm 13 years old and I'm a competitive dancer on a professional dance team. Right now, my strongest type of dance is Lyrical. It's my favorite, and I'm really good at it. Ballet helps a lot in Lyrical, which is why I suggest starting out with Ballet first. Good luck(:
ballet is the basis of most dance, i think it would be to your benefit to start with that and then expand into different types!
i take jazz tap hip hop and just starting ballet.i love them all.either choice is good.i am advanced and all of them i enjoy.tap is easiest for me.but jazz and hip hop is my favorite.
Ballet is a good starter class. It is not the easiest but it is a foundation for all other classes. Jazz, lyrical, and even hip-hop will be much easier (if you want to take them in the future) if you have ballet experience. Good luck! (You are about to enter a new world- the world of DANCE!! congrats!!)
definitely ballet - - it's the root of all other dance forms. as for what 2nd class you should take ... hmmmmm.... i love and have taken all of them, so can't say which you should add in.
ballet id the root to all dance. id rack up as many of these classes first. Jazz is fun and energetic too. Tap is fun but it requires a lot of thecnique and things to learn. I wouldnt start lyrical or modern untill later. Hip hop is just plain fun to do if u have time. Its also easy to learn and there r no real moves.

Does Ballet make you grow tall?

Not by pointe but I mean growing.

Does Ballet make you grow tall?movie theater

No, but you have to be tall in order to be a good ballerina or ballerine.

Does Ballet make you grow tall?tickets opera theater

Ballet can't make you grow taller. Eating proper nutrional foods will. Ballet can make you leaner and more flexible, giving the illusion that you are taller.
No but you will have a better posture and look taller.
Makes ya flexible. ;P
has nothing to do with "tall". Probably as you exercise while dancing you get a little older and so you see growth in stature during those years, but no, ballet has nothing to do with actually growing tall.
no
Nope, sorry! Ballet dancers appear to be taller than they are because of the uplifted posture of the chest and head required to make ballet look cooler (and stop dancers falling over when they stick their legs in the air). The lifting of the ribcage also lifts the head, so it looks as though the dancer has gained an inch or so - but alas, it is only smoke and mirrors.... :'(

It's back to the world of the midgets for me.
The posture makes you appear tall and graceful, but I'm not sure if it actually stimulates physical growth. It encourages better posture, and this makes anybody appear taller.
Probably not, you just learn posture that maximizes how tall you look. There was an answer earlier that says you have to be tall to be a ballet dancer, but I think that varies depending on what a particular company is looking for; at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet the dancers tend to be short.
no! i've been taking ballet for 5 years and i'm still really short
no it will not help you grow taller, but it is ver good if you wanna be lean and hvae good posture and stongggg legs

Stage (ballet) Makeup?

Nutcracker is coming in about 3 weeks for me. What do I do as far as stage makeup? At the last performance, I wasn't really shure what to do. How much darker and exagerated is it than everyday makeup? I have tan(Mexican) skin

Stage (ballet) Makeup?amc theater

FACE

In general you put on a foundation slightly darker than your naturaln skin tone because next you put on loose powder that creates a lighter tone bringing you back to your regular shade. The point of it is to stop light from a)washing you out and b) stop the light from reflecting off your face.

However, foundation can look slightly oily at times.

LIPS

Put on a colour that looks best on you already. Then top it off with a gloss that isn't sparkly. This just keeps you lips moist so they don't get sticky and it helps prevent lipstick from getting on your teeth. =)

Blush. Grin super hard bearing your teeth then put the blush only on the apples of the cheeks then "drag" it out to the hairline. This brings out you cheek bones! My friend(not the one that helped me write this) had difficulty with this only because she put too much on so be careful not to over do it. (unless you are a ballerina or something of that sort. Ballerinas have slightly pink cheeks NOT red.) Make sure that you chose the colours that look best. Start with a pink but if it NEEDS to be brighter than add red...CAREFULLY!!! If you put on too much you might have to start over...(a total pain)

EYES

Eyeliner is suposed to go on first. You put it on from the center of your top lid then go out about a centimeter from the corner. (curving up wards to create the look of an eyelash).

Eyeshadow goes second. You usually put white eyeshadow from right under your brow to the crease of your eyelid. Since you are darker that means I would suggest a pale brown. Like a mink colour. At the crease put a dark brown. (this is to highlight your eye more.) Then over the eye (finally) put a brown that is in between the other two colours. Last but not least you apply the mascara.

Play make up is fairly easy to do once you have experience with it.

Good luck!

xoxo

awhole lot more exagerated! what i did was just used my every day make up just more of it
Put on mascara, eyeshadow [maybe purples, browns, blues, golds], talk to the director about what shade of lipstick but DEFFINETLY wear some. dont put foundation on. On stage you'll sweat %26amp; it'll come off. also put on blush. %26amp; stay away from glitter. it makes u look like ur sweating on stage. im a dancer too. =]
overexaggerate your makeup!

this means:

red lips

lots and lots of blush

falsh eyelashes with thick liquid eyeliner

tons of sparkles

flashy eyeshadow colors, but still looking normal with your outfit. (example, you're costume is white and red, and you chose green eyeshadow. BIG no no!)

pretty much, you'll feel like a drag queen. but trust me, this will look normal if youre sitting in the audience!

good luck!

Is ballet hard?

As a professional ballet dancer, I can vouch for it being a very straining and difficult activity.

If you want to do anything with ballet then you must have talent, technique, self-discipline, strength, endurance, emotion, and passion.

There are many things to be concerned about your body with ballet. You can be easily injured and it is very difficult to stay conditioned. You must have an ideal body type, somewhere between the height range of 5'-5'6" and you have to be very thin and muscular.

It requires great body strength, mostly from your legs, back, and stomach. Ballet is well rounded with strength, meaning you use all the muscles in your body just to control one movement. Did you know that one Act from Swan Lake is equivalent in endurance to 4 football games? No I am not lying...and there are 4 Acts in Swan Lake.

Not to mention pointe work. One of the most grueling activities you will ever put your body through. You can destroy your body by the time your 40. It wears you down quickly. I have already had several significant injuries which will later lead to sugeries, significant pain, and arthritis.

I do not just say this because I am a ballet dancer. I believe it was worth it for me because it was what I loved, and I was willing to torture myself and critique myself every day of my life to perfect ballet. But I do not think it is right for everyone, you need to be dedicated in order to love it.

It depends what you define as hard! Most dancer's think it's hard , I have done Ballet for nearly 9 years and still think it's hard . Extremely! Someone who has been in ballet for a number of years has feet that look like they have gone through a meat-grinder! Trying to balance keeping weight done and increased muscle mass puts a massive physical and mental toll on the body. Not my first choice for artistic expression!
Yes, it takes balance, coordination, and skill. It also takes a lot of practice!
Yes it is, but is it worth it? I don't think so
yup...

too heavy, too tall, too short, too 'fat', too anything and you are out before you begin

but if you dedicate yourself and persevere.... who knows?
Ballet is the hardest thing I ever did, but I was in fab shape for it. Ballet is not for wimps, nor is it for the lazy. I've done sports, music, had three kids and went to medical school and ballet was harder hands down. You can't get anywhere with it unless you are tough as nails.
I've seen football players leave ballet exhausted and sore the next day. It also uses your mind. Studies have shown that ballet will improve IQ, but trust me at the higher levels you have to already have a great mind to keep up.
Ballet is very hard. Anyone who disagrees... isn't doing it properly. Ballet takes a great amount of strength and stamina. Also, It takes a great deal of dedication.
i've been dancing for about 14 years and yes it is hard but you learn to love it plus you learn balance coordination and you have rhythm. i would suggest learning when you're younger because it helps as you get older. i don't think i could go in and start ballet now but i'm glad i did when i was 3.
Ballet is hard but so is any sport that you would start out with no knoweldge about it. I have been dancing every year of my life since i was 2 so yes ballet is hard but u should try it if u want too. It is fun.
I've been learning dance for 4 years. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it.

I think you should audition if you feel like it. It will be a good experience for you. You will know what level the other girls who audition are at. That way, you will know how much more training you need. It will also help you get used to the pressure of auditions. Your instructor will hopefully be supportive. I wouldn't worry about the boarding thing yet... Best of luck to you!

Royal ballet Nightmare !!x?performing arts opera theater

I would think that your instructor would be really supportive of you trying out. Or she should be, at least. If she is a respectable instructor, she will tell you how she feels honestly either way.
Just go audition!
I don't want to tell you that your mother is always wrong but in this case I think she is being over protective and she is affecting your thoughts on the whole thing. I think her reaction is Pyching you out. I don't know you but if some thing deep inside is telling you to go for it then do it. If you don't you will always regret it. I am sure your mother does not want you to regret not taking a chance with some thing you really want to do. My mother actually has a certain amount of respect for me since I have made some decisions like this for my self that goes against her advice, and in a weird way she admires the way I have listened to what she had to say but then took my own road in life instead of listening to her all the time. I bet your mother is just being over protective. you need to make this choice yourself. get other opinions before you move on to build your confidence. talk to your class mates and see what they think they see you everyday along with your instructors. I say go with what your heart tells you. Good luck with that.
If you have the technique required for ballet at the Royal Ballet School, and you are the correct age to audition, then you should definitely audition, whether it be for a summer intensive dance camp or the full year program. You should have confidence!
